Company History

Deery’s started in 1932 when Michael Deery, or Mick as he was better known, purchased the premises at 66 Main Street, Carrickmacross from the O’Neill Family. The O’Neill family had several enterprises at the time. They excelled in their roles as a grocer, hotelkeepers, wine merchants, spirit dealer and a coachbuilder.

Mick Deery was born into a large family in Shane, Castleblayney. In keeping with the times, Mick turned his hand to anything he could do to survive. He continued the O’Neill family business as a grocer but also established a public house, meal stores, fuel merchant, hardware and general merchant as well as a undertaker. As a result, he became a first-generation funeral director. Mick became a well-known, and respected man. He was a calm gentleman, with an outstanding respect for everyone.

Deerys Funeral Home

To this day, Deery’s Funeral Directors, is still a family owned and operated business under the stewardship of Mick’s youngest son, Michael and grandson Micheál. We have been serving the people of Carrickmacross and the surrounding areas for over 90 years. Micheál has built upon his grandfather and father’s principles and values, and provides a professional service dedicated to tradition, trust and experience.

Today, our service continues to be at the heart of the community of South Monaghan and surrounding areas. Located just off the Main Street, we provides families with a private space where they can avail of two viewing rooms. This allows us to cater for the needs of families and friends of both larger numbers and for those who prefer a smaller intimate gathering as well as access to private parking.
